Nu Beta's history began in 1909, and sadly the 100th anniversary of its history was not commemorated
by a viable undergraduate chapter. This, however, is being addressed by a campaign to recolonize the chapter. The beginning of this campaign
is covered
here and
here.
2011 saw some heartening progress toward restoring the Chapter. This effort has taken the course of a club spearheaded by Dave Cucchiara, Carl's son. This is a report from September 2011 by Dave.
Brothers,
Just thought I'd update you once again on the happenings of The Silver Fox
Club (FIJI Interest Group).
Our grad brother-student meet and greet was a huge success (other than the
weather). It was great for the guys to meet some of the faces behind the
scenes, as well as learn how rewarding the fraternity experience of Phi
Gamma Delta can be. I really appreciate the twelve of you that came out on
that rainy day.
Nationals director of expansion Brett Pytel was here for most of the week.
He met with the 38 guys in the group to make sure they all fit the
description of a FIJI gentlemen. On Wednesday evening we met in Waller Hall
on Cook-Douglas for a retreat. Brett explained our mission statement and
gave a little history of the fraternity. After we elected a cabinet, as well
as committee heads. The officers are as follows:
President - Dave Cucchiara (dcucchiara@gmail.com)
Treasurer - Alan Bogoevski (alanbog@eden.rutgers.edu)
Recording Secretary - Rohith Surampudi (rvsurampudi@gmail.com)
Corresponding Secretary - Vincent Papa (vpapa@eden.rutgers.edu)
We then continued to set goals on top of our group requirements for the
semester. We understand that a house will not come easy. The members of the
Silver Fox Club realize that we will need to earn the respect and confidence
of all the alumni before we can even think about a house. Our goals for the
2011 semester is as follows:
1. Have $5,000-$10,000 in The Silver Fox Club account from fundraising,
donations, and dues by the end of the semester. This quadruples the Phi
Gamma Delta national's requirement for end of the semester funds for an
interest group.
2. Each member of The Silver Fox Club should have 20+ community service
hours by the end of the semester. This doubles the Phi Gamma Delta
national's requirement.
3. Establish a philanthropy event and raise $1,000-$2,000 towards that
philanthropy by the end of the semester. We're considering the Eric LeGrand
Fund, The Red Cross, and the USO.
4. Have 40 quality gentlemen in the Silver Fox Club by the end of the
semester. This quadruples the Phi Gamma Delta national requirement.
5. As a group, have above a 3.0 GPA for the semester.
6. Have 75% of the guys participate in some other organization on campus.
7. Have 3 informal and 1 formal meeting a month.
We believe that raising out standards will not only help us become
recognizable in the university, but continue to keep us ahead of the game
when it comes to chartering. As you all know, our main goals for the
semester is to be the best while mending the reputation that previous group
left us with. I'll make sure to keep you all updated on events that go on
during the semester. Keep an eye out for an email concerning the homecoming
tailgate where all alumni will be invited. Please send this to any alumni
whose emails I don't have, or send me the emails of graduate brothers who
would like to be on my email list. Ready for an exciting semester!
Fraternally,
Dave
